Though a little self-helpish….doing little extra small things can’t hurt :P

1.    Watch “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch. See it online at www.Oprah.com . This is a deeply moving segment that may be the best ten minutes you’ve ever invested in front of a computer.

2.    Spend a little while watching the sunset with your mate. Nothing extra is necessary. Just sit and take in the natural beauty of the sky and appreciate being able to share it with the one you love.

3.    Sit quietly by yourself. It doesn’t really matter where or when. Just let your feelings bubble up and then experience the thoughts flowing out of your mind. Clearing your head and heart will give you extra energy to get through the rest of the day.

4.    Write a thank you note to your mate. When was the last time you thanked your partner for just being who he or she is and being with you? Doing this in writing will give your partner something to cherish for the rest of his or her life.

5.    Take out your oldest family photo album and look through it. The experience will fill you with fond memories and perhaps make you a bit wistful for days gone by.

6.    Play with a child. Most kids have short attention spans; ten minutes of quality time from a loving adult can make their day. It will also help you stay in touch with the child inside of you.

7.    Visualize or imagine a positive outcome for any issue. Medical doctors recommend visualization to patients with chronic and potentially fatal illnesses. If it can help them, it can do the same for you.

8.    Go to bed with the one you love ten minutes earlier than usual. Then spend that time just holding each other. Let the feeling of warmth from your mate move through you.

9.    Hang out by some water. Studies show that hospital patients who can see a natural body of water from their beds get better at a 30 percent faster rate. If you’re not near the coast or a lake, try taking a bath. Doing so is also healing.

10.  Dance like nobody’s watching. Shake, twist, and jump around. Let yourself feel the joy of moving to your favorite music.

The little red dress (LRD)

It is the equivalent to the LBD, except braver and bolder. The perfect girl’s night out dress! Why? Because you’ll look absolutely amazing.

The cheaper Bluefly equivalent - Nicole Miller’s red jersey butterfly dress.

Neon Trees - Animal

Omg! This song is so catchy! I heard it on the radio and had to come home and look it up. I haven’t been able to stop playing it. It’s one of those songs that is able to completely lift my spirits :)

A song to close out the 2010 year…

LCD Soundsystem - Home

Happy New Year! As I am spending NYE home with my family, I find this song very appropriate. In the album, This is Happening, LCD Soundsystem is mostly just one guy, James Murphy, who sings and plays all the instruments himself! Every song is absolutely great. It was really a toss up between the all popular All I Want and Home which one to play today. As the last track on the album, it is rumored that Home may be his final song as LCD Soundsystem. It is here that Murphy sings “You might forget the sound of a voice/still you should not forget/yeah, don’t forget/the things that we laughed about.”  Remember the hardships in the past year and rejoice the new year. Here’s to 2011 and may it be filled with great music!

Today, I went to Stanford Shopping Center with Carrie. Check out this new mural! Isn’t it pretty?

There were so many after-Christmas sales - it was a little overwhelming! Despite that, I think we did pretty well… I picked up a couple really cute things! We had dessert and coffee as a break from shopping. The cheesecake although tiny was super filling!

And as usual, I love French macaroons!

Chiddy Bang - Hey London

I’m usually very picky when it comes to hip hop.. so it is quite rare when I do find a hip hop song that I like. However, Hey London is so catchy, I couldn’t help myself! Chiddy Bang released their mix tape, Air Swell, on myspace in April 2010. One random fact - did you know the duo was formed at Drexel U in Philly? Anyway, it is amazing! Go listen!

Jónsi - Animal Arithmetic

I really can’t get enough of this artist. I’ve probably listened to this album on repeat at least 20 times this past week.  And in case you haven’t already heard of Jonsi, he is an Icelandic guitarist formerly a member of the band Sigur Ros. In his debut album, Go, he fills us with his his melodic giddy and fluttering voice. Do give it a try!
